SSC: Staff Selection Commission

SSC stands for Staff Selection Commission, is an Indian organization which recruits staffs for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India. It also recruits for subordinates offices. The commission is headed by a chairman and there are two members and a Secretary-cum-Controller of Examinations to assist the Chairman. It is headquartered at New Delhi, India.

The Staff Service Commission conducts competitive examinations to recruit various services and posts. There are more than 20 types of jobs varies from group B to group C. Eligibility criteria is graduation in any stream from a recognized university to apply for an SSC examination. Physical fitness and measurement are also required for some posts like the Sub-Inspector and Narcotics department.

 

Some of the Major Functions of SSC:

To conduct recruitment for the Group “B” posts in the Ministries/ Departments of the Govt. of India and their subordinate offices and for all non-technical Group “C” posts in the  Ministries or Departments of Govt. of India and their subordinate offices

To conduct exams and interviews for the posts within its purview

To conduct departmental exams related to promotion from a lower division to upper divisions

To conduct periodical typewriting tests in Hindi and English

To perform other functions entrusted to it by the Central Govt. from time to time

BSF (Border Security Force):- Border Security Force is one of those posts, which ensures the security of the primary border of India. BSF is Union Government Agency referred by Central Armed Police Force (CAPF). It has own cadre of an officer but is headed by the Indian Police Service. BSF provides the security of people who are living in border areas. BSF handle illegal activities such as unauthorized entry of terrorist on the border.

 

CISF (Central Industrial Security Force):- As per the name, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) provides the security of Government Industrial Areas. CISF is the Central Armed Police Force in India, whose headquarter is located in New Delhi.

 

CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force):- It is one of the oldest Central Para Military Forces that provide internal security to every part of India. CRPF ensures the free and fair election of parliament or assembly around the country.

 

SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal):- Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) also known as Special Service Bureau that was set up to counter an act of aggression by the People’s Liberation Army which provides armed support for the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s Foreign Intelligence Agency as the primary task.

 

ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police):- Indo Tibetan Border Police is a multi-dimensional force which is located on border guarding duties from Karakorum Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3488 Km of Indo -China Border. ITBP is basically a Mountain Trained Force in which most of the officers are professionally trained Mountaineers and Skiers.
